Ar Lietuvai reikalingos saugomos teritorijos?
Education program for schoolchildren "Habitats of European importance and species" in Lithuania
Lithuania comprises 53 different types of preserved habitats of European importance. This represents 24 % of the entire number of preserved habitats (218) that are recognized in the European Union and listed in the Habitats Directive. Many of these habitat types need protection. They are found within various sea, freshwater, sand, meadow, forest, and swamp areas.
All territory of Zemaitija National Park is important for habitats of Natura 2000. There are about 16 habitats of different types in the park. We have prepared an ecological education program for schoolchildren "Habitats of European importance and species".
We do not have habitats like a European dry heaths, Juniperus communis formations, Siliceous rocky slopes, Fennoscandian wooded pastures, in our territories. During our visit to Salantai Region Park on the 2 of June we will visit such kind of habitats with schoolchildren from four different schools.
During this visit we will get to know about Nature 2000 importance, we will try to find the best method for teaching outdoor about different kind of Nature 2000 habitats, especially European dry heaths and Juniperus communis, we will try to work with children from different schools and to unite them by using games. This experience we will share with partners, to whom Nature 2000 is important.
